I love the pouf! It is a comfortable way to rest your feet, basically an ottoman, and comes in many different colors and sizes.
Here are a few from Overstock, Amazon, Amy Butler, CB2, and Etsy ranging in price from $89- $200. You can buy the Amy Butler pouf pattern and and fabric in stores or online to make your own. I decided to make my own and experiment with making a pattern . It actually turned out pretty well. I made a mini pouf that fits perfect on top of my kids stools. They like to use it for sitting on or pillow wars.
What You Need:
3/4 Yard Fabric
4 x 7 piece of medium weight fusible interfacing
4 x 7 piece of medium weight fusible interfacing
Paper Cutter
Paper or Waxed Paper
Pen
Scissors
10 inch plate
{This will make a 45" inch round pouf 10 inches high and 14 inches wide}
1. Cut Paper into 6 x 9 inch and fold it length wise
2. Fold it again
3. unfold 2nd fold so it looks like this
{See Center Crease}
4. Trace the plate from top left to middle right as shown with the dotted line in the diagram above.
5. Cut on the pen line with scissors, should look like bottom picture
6. Fold fabric in 9.5 inches length wise, placing the pattern on the fold {as shown above} Trace out 8 arch panels.
7. Cut out each panel
they should look like this
8. Put 2 panels, right sides together, sewing one side of the panels, take another panel and pin to the other side of one of the sewn panels, make sure the top and bottom points match up then sew that side and keep adding until all 8 are sewn together, leaving the ends to sew together.
9. Instead of ironing the seams apart on each, reinforce it with the zig-zag stitch
10. Sew pouf shut, all but 6 inches of the ends for an opening to turn the pouf right side out, like the above picture.
11. After you have turned the pouf right side out, put the filling case in it before filling it.
12. Fill it with fabric scraps and poly fill , then sew the filling case shut, stick in pouf and sew the pouf opening shut with a top stitch.
The top and bottom of your pouf will have small openings which will be covered with a topper.
13. To make the toppers, cut out 4- 3" inch round pieces of fabric and 2- 3" inch round pieces of interfacing.

14. Lay the fabrics like a sandwich on top of each other like the diagram above then sew 1/4" all the way around.
one side is the interfacing and the other the wrong side fabric |
15. Cut 1 inch opening on wrong side fabric, { Make sure you do not cut into the right side fabric and interfacing!- I use a pin to catch them and hold them while I cut the top fabric piece} then turn the topper right side out through the hole. Repeat one more time.
16. Hand sew toppers over the holes on top and bottom of pouf from under the topper so the stitch does not show.
fits perfect on the kids stools |
Have fun making your own pouf.
