My Perfect Gathering Room

In our old house we had the perfect gathering room.  Somehow we would find ourselves constantly gathering in our son's nursery.  I don't know if it was because of the calming blues, or that there was so much love put into the making of his nursery and my husbands personal touch.  I talked about this room before in my Cheek to Cheek post. When we left our home, this room was the one room we missed the most.

In the beginning of it all this room needed some work.  Every night John would come home from work and put in a few hours patching, taping, and priming the nursery. I would sit outside the door and watch him for a while but soon be laying on the sofa with my feet up at 8 months pregnant.

We found our inspiration for the nursery from a Jack Johnson CD.  That was about the time the Curious George Movie came out and Jack Johnson did the soundtrack for it.  We really like his music and the sketches in the CD were great!

John painted the ceiling and window wall a dark blue (Warm Spring)and the 3 remaining walls a lighter blue (Enchanting).  We matched it up close to the colors in the Jack Johnson CD.

John was really great with the mural, never having done one before. The great thing about my husband is that he is a perfectionist;  Which means it will turn out amazing 99% of the time.

First he sketched the picture we wanted from the CD on the wall with a pencil.  I believe he used a quart of acrylic black and white and he just mixed them to make the gray shading on George and the paint bucket.  It truly looks amazing!

Once everything was painted we added the furniture we had. Also a nice plush carpet remnant we purchased from a local flooring shop for a great price.  I picked out a few pictures from the CD I wanted for the nursery and John blew them up for me to frame.  It was the perfect nursery!

I wish I would have taken more pictures of the whole room once everything was in it.  I wanted to add this picture of the rocker (and my baby boy).  This Rocker was my grandmothers, and for a time, my mom had it, so this rocker means a lot to me. So for our shower gift my grandparents had it reupholstered for the nursery. So I guess it was the love put in this room.  Everything had meaning in that room and now we are slowly doing the same for the bedroom they share now. That will be another post.

By the way my computer is still acting a bit funny so we will be on a day to day trial with internet.  All because I wanted to find that Jack Johnson CD picture! One click and crash! I am thankful I can blog today and it is not totally fried!
