Recycled Valentine's Part 1

Every year we go out and buy holiday cards, spending $4 on 1 card you may or may not look at again. Here are a few ways to use things around your home to make your own valentines for free, and perhaps more enjoyable for giving.

What you will Need for this Valentine:
a VS shopping bag for the ribbon(or other bag with pretty ribbon)
pink and ivory card stock (or any color, be creative)
1 small piece of felt to coordinate with the paper
1 button (I pull out a few for selection)
scissors - regular and fun
hole punch
fabric glue
String and Sewing Needle (optional)

PUTTING IT TOGETHER:

1.  Snip off the Red Satin ribbon from the VS bag ( You can even use the bag for paper)
2. Cut your card stock into two sizes, choose one color for the back layer (I chose pink) and the other to layer ( I chose ivory)over as I did in step two. You can make them heart, circle or whatever shape you want, I just liked the Gift Tag look.  I added fun scissors to make an edge on the top and bottom of the card, but you can make it all smooth edges.
3.Take a ribbon and fold it over the middle of the card to get the length, leaving a 1/2 inch for over lapping for the finish, then cut and lightly glue as shown.
4. Cut a heart from the felt just big enough to overlap the ribbon.
5. Then choose a button to compliment the card and you can either glue it on (skip step 6)or sew it on the heart.
6. Optional- Sew button on heart
7. Glue the heart over the ribbon on the front of the card, either center or side, whatever you prefer.
8. Once the heart is dried on the ribbon(15-25 min depending how much glue you added) punch a hole in the top of the card and add the second piece of red silk ribbon. Either tie or do a loop knot like I did.

Then on the back write your special message to your valentine. They will love the time and thought you put into making their valentine.

Happy Valentine's Day
