Decorating Cake Class

 CAKES!!! 

Do you decorate amazing cakes, but you have never taken a class? Me too!! There was just one thing, I felt like there was something missing.  My husband and I did our first fondant cake for our sons 1st birthday, a blue drum!  He did most of it, but it was so much fun!  Then we found ourselves doing another one for my sister's 16th birthday out of fondant and loved doing this.  But there was still something missing.  We wanted to learn more.  We found ourselves on you-tube, blogs, and cake sites looking up how-to's for gum paste, fondant, icing cupcakes, and more.  We are self taught and I think we do a great job, not to sound puffed up like a peacock, but really!  But taking a class made me think that we could do even better!  With so much more knowledge, tips, techniques we may not find on a cake site or a blog we were bound to get from a class!  

As a gift from my parents, I received the Ultimate Cake Kit!!!  AND... it was AMAZING! John and I signed up for the decorating basics cake class that month and tonight was our last one.  We really did learn a lot more than I thought.  Did you know you have to cut the tips of your icing bags to fit your coupler or tip? Well, I didn't! Or do you even know what a coupler is? I thought it was called, "The white thingy that goes inside the icing bag for the tips." So much easier to say 'coupler'!  This was a great class, so I decided to sign up for the next one, Fondant and Gum paste.  I use fondant, but not the packaged kind, so I am excited to find out how this stuff works.  In January I went to my girl friends house to do a trial run for her wedding cake and decided to buy pre-made fondant.  I had so much trouble with it. The first time, I rolled it out, and it literally hardened in a sheet.  The next time I managed to get it over the cake but it was still brittle.  I had no luck and I am determined, by the end of this course, to walk out and know how to use any kind of fondant.
