Cleaning your Shark Vacuum

This post was sparked by The Nester.  Her poor vacuum broke from an indoor hockey incident. Ha ha! All I could think of was my Aunt Laura and her 3 boys! She would understand Nester's predicament.  So I commented on Nester's post suggesting the Shark Vacuum.  It says on the Vacuum, 'Never loses Suction', that is if you are taking proper care of it and cleaning the canister and filter properly.  Well...I am not great at doing this, so after a year my vacuum had lost it's great suction.  So I cleaned out the canister and I am embarrassed to say what I found in there! Let's just call it build up! As soon as I had it all cleaned out, it was working great again! I am not a vacuum professional, but it didn't take a lot for me to realize I had to get that build up out of those tubes.  Since I could not find my manual I found a way to carefully do this and made sure everything was dried fully. Here is what I did 2 months ago and it is still working great!

First detach the canister. Then, empty the canister and filter

To get the filter canister out push this button

Carefully take this out over a trash can, detach filter from tube canister, shaking out every bit of dirt

Take everything apart , after shaking out all the filth, wash with warm water

To clean out the little tubes, pull out using a pair of tweezers

lift straight out so not to break them. wash out tubes
I washed them one at a time and replaced the clip right after, so not to get them mixed up.  I am not sure if they will all fit exact if the are mixed up, but I did not want to find out. They are a little hard to get out, so do not force them out.  The tweezers were definitely the best way to carefully take each one out.
Make sure you wash the canister too!
Leave everything out to fully dry and then put each thing back as it goes.  Cleaning out the tubes really made a big difference in the suction!  Also, I have really bad allergies and from the dust particles, I was sneezing like crazy.  So make sure, even if you don't have allergies, to wash your hands, arms, and face with soapy water as soon as you finish cleaning the vacuum.  My arms and face felt so filthy from the dust!  I hope this will help someone today! Enjoy this beautiful day!
