"Memories of Stitches" |
A month ago I was invited to a friends scrapbook workshop. I already love the idea of stamping but I never do it. At this party I found something that I loved, these pictures here are from a set of stamps I purchased at the party, along with some really cute chair stamps.
As a little girl my grandmother and I did sewing projects together. Every time I see a needle and thread or a jar of beautifully colored buttons I think of her. As a teenager I hated sewing but as a mother I have come to like it and love it for all the good memories it brings. Just like baking bread reminds me of my mother in the kitchen making homemade cinnamon rolls, but that will be for another time.
Yesterday sitting at my craft table, crafting up my son's baseball themed party, I had to take a break. For some reason the thought came into my head, "Why can't I stamp fabric?" So I tried it! If you would like to try this out, here are the things you will need to get started,
Supplies |
- Scrap piece of Fabric
- Outdoor Denim color Ink
- Stamps (and Stamp Block if needed)
- Picture frame
You can see right through the block to place where you want it! |

All I did was stamp the fabric. Instead of using a soft surface as you are supposed to with paper, a hard surface seemed to give a cleaner look on the fabric when stamping onto it. On the top picture of the sewing tools, I did embellish it a little. I took thread and stitched a few places just to give it a little color and more of a homemade feel and took a couple colored pencils to a few spots. Remember you are framing this, not wearing it, so use what you want. glitter it up! That's what my 3 year old daughter would want to do. ha ha.
Then cut the fabric down to the size of your frame opening. To frame it out better mat it before framing. Now that is it! It is that simple.
*Now out of curiosity I did wash one of these stamped pieces to see if it was permanent or not. It didn't come out but left a faded red outline of the stamped dress . So I would say fine for framing but not for clothing.
Also if you would like to know how to get these stamps check out this link here. Elizabeth also has a blog where she gives ideas and tips on her scrap booking called Broken Treasures.
Awesome Laura! I thought I recognized those stamps. lol
ReplyDeleteI have quite alot of stamps if you ever want to go with another theme - like little boys stuff :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE this!!! How did I not know you had a blog? I'm following now and I love how you stamped on fabric! I'm going to have to try it!!
ReplyDeleteOh and if you want to make it permanent try using CTMH's staz on ink - washable and works great on glass, metal and supposed to work great on fabric.
ReplyDeleteI used the Staz On to stamp a onesie. Check out my blog post (will be up on Monday). I'll try to remember to send you the link. Thanks for the idea!
